New Zealand’s first plant-based french patisserie.
Maison des Lys is New Zealand’s first plant-based french patisserie, created with the aim of showing people that they can enjoy french pastries that are completely vegan without compromising on taste or quality.
Hi, I am Drissilla, the owner and pastry chef at Maison des Lys.
Growing up in France, going to the bakery for bread and pastry had always been a daily ritual. When I moved to New Zealand in 2015, shortly after embracing a vegan lifestyle, I missed French pastries and started experimenting and searching for ways to replace animals products in baking.
I have no formal pastry training, but hours spent searching the internet and library to learn all the techniques and ingredients properties. As well as countless failed (and succesful) recipe trials.
Honestly. Good
Making and sharing food is my love language - I believe there is nothing better than a fresh, soft yet flakey croissant dipped in coffee to bring a smile to anyone - so the idea of starting a business to share my passion started to sprout. In 2020 while on maternity leave with my daughter Hazel, I gathered the courage (going back to work was scarier than starting a business!) and started Maison des Lys.
My aim with Maison des Lys is to share a little bit of my roots with New Zealand and show people that french pastries can be made without animal ingredients and absolutely no compromise on taste or quality.
Kind Words
“I think I have now tried all their croissants and they are all amazing! Super buttery, amazing layers and delicious fillings. Bonus that they are vegan! But you wouldn’t know it. Best vegan treats I’ve ever had. I hadn’t eaten a ham and cheese croissant since going vegan 3 years ago and trying their croissants was life changing.” - Anna Brand
“The best French pastries we’ve ever had (plant-based or not). The vegan ham and cheese croissant deserves a special praise, as a non vegan I choose this vegan ham and cheese anytime! Amazing, just amazing!” - Isi Ferrier
